Perhaps you've heard of the Roman road of salvation.
While you may think that it is the logical path for the living soul of mankind to enter Heaven there are some real problems with the underlying concept. This is what we will be looking at within the scope of this article.
*** ROMAN's ROAD OUTLINE ***
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the promise...
Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
*** UNDERSTANDING THE ROMAN's ROAD ***
The biggest concern with the Roman's road pathway is not for those who hear and understand the teachings within. Rather what of those who have never had the opportunity or privilege to read the Word of God or hear about Jesus. Are these flocks without number simply beyond hope of salvation?
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
If Christ died for the world, which He did wouldn't these souls also need an opportunity to receive salvation? I would say so.
Therefore, one can only conclude that God holds us accountable for what we know not what we don't know. Bare in mind, this is not a loophole for feigning ignorance; but rather the answer for people who never had the chance or opportunity to hear the truth of God.
*** ROMAN's ROAD AND GRACE ***
Perhaps you agree, perhaps you don't. But the majority of people whom I have heard teach this process over emphasize grace while de-emphasizing works. I would certainly not teach that we are saved by works, but rather challenge true salvation without it.
James 2:18
But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
Which is likely the reason for whom our adversary pursues like a roaring lion until the end of time.
Revelation 12:17
Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring—those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
Notice that he is looking for people who are doing two things, not just one.
1. Obey God's commandments
2. Hold to the testimony of Jesus
*** CLOSING THE ROMAN's ROAD ISSUE ***
In closing, God wants as many people as possible to be saved. He loves and died for the living soul of humanity and wishes to be reunited with all of us as we enter into Heaven. Therefore, the Roman's road is a good path to understand salvation as long as we understand the exceptions that are prevalent within it.
