Christians Disagree: Why do good Christians disagree

Have you ever been listened to Christians disagree?

The end result is often one of confusion for everyone involved, especially non-believers. Certainly, that can't be good, so why do good Christians disagree.

Let's take a look at several reasons and how to handle them correctly.

*** PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS ***
First, both are convinced that they are right.

My wife and I were speaking about this type of issue on the way home and she brought up a very helpful well known quote on this matter.

"A man convinced against his will, remains unconvinced still."

*** Take our free Bible study lessons. ***

There is a solution that avails itself quite nicely at this point. Simply put if both parties choose to focus on what God's Word says rather than what they want God's Word to say a common ground will be found sooner or latter. While this may sound easy in theory it is not so simple in reality.

Putting aside ones preconceived ideas and listening only to what scripture has to say can indeed be quite challenging.

*** FALSE TEACHINGS ***
I believe it was Hitler who coined the phrase…

"Tell a person a lie long enough and sooner or later they will believe it."

Whomever it was that originated that statement its validity remains clear.

Unfortunately, there are far to many people who preach inconsistencies from the pulpit either knowingly or unknowingly. The bottom line here is that it would be much better for those listening to a sermon to check out the validity of what is being taught rather than accepting it car blanch for whatever reason.

There are many reasons people are found not choosing to follow the above advice.

* Respect for the speaker
* Laziness
* Business

And the list sadly goes on.

*** OUR ADVERSARY ***
Holding a conversation on why Christians oppose one another would not be complete without considering our adversary would be quite short sited.

Lucifer deceived man with a lie in the start

Genesis 3:4
"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.

Lucifer twisted Scripture even against Jesus

Matthew 4:6
"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' "

Lucifer continues to look for victims throughout all time

1 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

*** CONCLUSION ***
While there are other reasons that good Christians disagree today, these are certainly 3 top reasons. Each of these could easily be avoided if everyone relied on…

* Self study of God's Word more
* Popular pulpit preaching less

2 Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
